Loch Crinan, Scotland
This card shows Loch Crinan from above Bellanoch Moorings. What’s interesting to me about this card is that it could almost be a photograph from here, in Western North Carolina!

Kitten from Boxville Sur La Mer
What a very cool postcard, which arrived in a package of five that I received in a swap! I looked it up online, and discovered that the image comes from a children’s book originally published in Japan called “The Kittens of Boxville” by writer and “kitten-house architect” Ryosuke Handa and photographer Yoneo Morita from Tokyo. You can check out the cuteness on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Kittens-Boxville-Ryosuke-Handa/dp/0811866882

Map card of Bulgaria
Okay — this one is strange. It’s an official Postcrossing card showing a map of Bulgaria. But it comes from someone in Uzbekistan who, at the time, was vacationing in Bulgaria! Although the map card is neat, I sure would have liked to receive a card from Uzbekistan! 🙂

Unique art card from the Ukraine
A very bright spot in my day yesterday was this official Postcrossing card that arrived in my mailbox from the Ukraine. It appears to be hand-drawn, as I can see the actual pencil marks. (Click on the image for a better, larger view.) The sender doesn’t say anything about the card being her own; I asked when I registered the card but have not yet received a response.
On the back there is a script “L” with what looks to be the word “LANA” underneath. The letter A though does not have the line through the middle, so that it looks more like an upside-down “V.” If anyone knows anything about this card or the artist, please leave a comment!

Independence Square, Kiev, Ukraine
This card must have come from a swap since it is blank on the back. But it’s one of those cards that amaze me, showing a city I’ve never given much though to, a city filled with many people just like me, living their lives, going shopping, watching TV, working, living, wishing, wanting. The world sometimes seems very big to me — like now.

St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral, St. Petersburg, Russia
This building looks spectacular — with blues and whites and golds. The Cathedral is one of the oldest in St. Petersburg and one of the last remaining examples of Baroque architecture. Inside are 10 gold-framed icons given by Catherine the Great.

Kansas State Penitentiary
I received this card in a swap — I think it’s kind of a strange view for a postcard. “Hey Ma! Lookie where we’re visiting today!” 🙂

South Padre Island, Texas
From a swap — this card shows Isla Blanca Park, at the southernmost tip of Padre Island. “The Jetties, located at the island’s southern tip, are one of the most unique features of the county park.”
